Mystic Jarv Weekend of 7th November

Another bad week for Mystic Jarv last weekend, here are this weekends predictions

Saturday

Aston Villa V Bolton Wanderers

Since beating Chelsea 3 weeks ago Villa haven’t won a game in the league and only won in the League cup on penalties, Their form is something Villa will want to rectify quickly if they serious want to challenge for Europe this season.

After 2 4-0 thumpings at the hand of Chelsea in their last 2 games Gary Megson will be glad to see the back of them for now at least however a trip to Villa park is not any easy away game either.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 1-0 to Villa
Aston Villa V Bolton Wanderers match discussion

Blackburn Rovers V Portsmouth

Pompey’s results have picked up a little to match their playing form and this is a massive game for them, both clubs find themselves in the bottom three and Blackburn are struggling more than i thought they would this season. They should now be over the Swine flu that hit the club and need to bounce back.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 1-0 to Blackburn …..just, however i could see it going the other way too
Blackburn Rovers V Portsmouth match discussion

Manchester City V Burnley

Burnley simply are not very good away from home and i can’t see them getting anything here. City are currently in the top 4 which is where they want to be and will really want to be there over the international break. There really should only be one winner in this game.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 2-0 to City
Manchester City V Burnley match discussion

Tottenham Hotspur V Sunderland

Like Villa, Sunderland have not won since their big victory on the 17th October and will want to get back on track as soon as possible, Lee Cattermole is injured and he ha been their driving force in the middle of the park and without him i believe they will struggle without him.

Spurs have had mixed fortunes from their recent matches and won’t be please by the 3-0 beating at the hands of their neighbours, if Spurs truly have designs on a Champions League place they have to win this game.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 2-1 to Spurs
Tottenham Hotspur V Sunderland match discussion

Wolverhampton Wanderers V Arsenal – 17:30

Wolves have picked up a point in each of their last 3 games, asll 3 of which i predicted them to lose, should they get something from this game they will really surprise me.

Arsenal will be pleased with the win last week against Spurs and Wenger must be delighted with their form, they’re scoring goals for fun. There is discussions about take overs going on at the moment but i don’t think it will put the team off their stride and i expect them to move into 2nd by Saturday night.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 1-3 to Arsenal
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Arsenal match discussion

Sunday

Hull City V Stoke City

Well phil brown is still in charge but you have to ask how much longer, the statement from the new chairman was hardly resounding and should 3 points not be forthcoming against Stoke i believe he will be gone by the time they play West Ham, Should Brown be sacked it gives the club a couple of weeks while the internationals are on to find a New boss. The question is, is there anyone better out there that will want to goto Hull?

Stoke Captain Abdoulaye Faye says they can qualify for Europe this season, big brave words given the competition this season, if they are to then they have to win this game.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 0-1 to Stoke
Hull City V Stoke City match discussion

West Ham United v Everton

It was a bitter-sweet midweek for West ham, beating Villa was a top result but losing Carlton Cole was a blow to them, before that game they were struggling for form. Everton were struggling even more and are having a terrible season by their recent standards and failed to pick up a win in the whole of October.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 1-1 Draw
West Ham United V Everton match discussion

Wigan Athletic V Fulham

12th V 11th in the league, I didn’t see the game against Roma but i undertstand Fulham were unlucky to be down to 9 men. Still at the end of the day the Premier league is their bread and butter and this game is more important in the long term, beating Liverpool was a fantastic result for them and they will want to follow it up against Wigan.

Wigan got thumped at Portsmouth last week and have had a few mixed results since beating Chelsea, they have conceeded lots of goals too and will need to tighten up for this game.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 2-1 Win for Wigan

Chelsea V Manchester United

This game as a United fan worries me, United’s defence has been quite porous of late and Chelsea have been scoring lots of goals and playing great football but it’s never quite that simple is it. I believe United will be really up for this game and could just nick a win but to do that they need to cut out the defensive and keeping errors that plagued the game against CSKA on Tuesday. The normally steady Van der sar will definitely want the first and third goal back and a keeper of his stature shouldn’t have been beaten so easily.

United need to keep Drogba and Anelka quiet if they do that they have a chance, Chelsea have to nullify United’s Wingers which could be key to the game

Mystic Jarv predicts a 1-2 for United (might be being an optimistic United fan here)
Chelsea V Manchester United match discussion

Monday

Liverpool V Birmingham City

Under normal circumstances in other seasons this would be such an obvious prediction but Liverpool are struggling and with Gerrard and Torres both doubtful and both possibly needing surgery on injuries 2009/2010 could be shaping up to be Liverpool’s worst season for many a year.

A draw against City and a victory against Sunderland are 2 results that surprised me a little , I tink they will lose this game but if they can frustrate Liverpool ealry on they might, just might get something.

Mystic Jarv Weekend of 31 October

Ok then, forgetting last weekend ever happened which was a complete train wreck in terms of my predictions.

So onto This weekend, there’s only one game sunday so i’ve done all the games on here.

Saturday

Arsenal V Tottenham Hotspur

Harry reckons Spurs are capable of finishing above Arsenal,m brave words before a game at the Emirates where Arsenal have been fantastic, No Defoe, possibly no Lennon as well, it would be a stunning result for Spurs to win this one, in fact a\ draw would be a great achievement.

Arsenal have been destroying teams at home and until Chelsea beat Swine flu ridden Blackburn last week had the best goal difference by far and i expect them to win this one.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 3-1 win for Arsenal

Bolton Wanderers V Chelsea

Only one winner in this game, Chelsea will win handsomely, 5 players from Chelsea have been shortlisted for Fifa world player of the year, most of which i can understand but, John Terry has had a very average year at best and i really fail to see how he keeps getting nominated for things he doesn’t deserve like the best Defender in the champions league last season, never in a million years did he deserve that.

Bolton’s only chance is to stun Chelsea from a set piece which they have been a little vulnerable in the past.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 3-0 win for Chelsea

Burnley V Hull City

Burnley’s 100% home record went last week and whether they can recover will be key to their season.

Hull have a few problems at the moment, i would say behind the scenes but its pretty much in public, The Chairman has gone and there were lots of rumours Brown had gone too, He hasn’t but unless their form picks up you can’t help wonder how long he has left.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 1-0 win for Burnley, and Phil Brown to be the first manager to be sacked.

Everton V Aston Villa

Moyes has complained about Everton having away games after game sin Europe which is the same problem both Man United and Chelsea and i think Liverpool have complained about in recent seasons, and curiously the following year they all got a bit better fixture list after European games from the “Random” fixture computer. However as it stands Everton wont be in Europe next year so wont make a difference and its fast turning into a poor season for Everton and to top it off they have terrible Injury problems.

Villa play their game in hand on Wednesday night and will want to win this game to ensure they can go into the top 4 if they win it. On Wednesday they beat Sunderland on penalties to reach the quarter finals of the Carling cup and will be buoyed by that.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 2-1 win for Aston Villa

Fulham V Liverpool

Liverpool got a great result last weekend against Manchester United without Steven Gerrard, I’m not going to mention the Ref again as i’ve posted elsewhere my feelings on his “performance”. They lost again against Arsenal in a competition which mioght very well have been their best chance at silverware this season.

Its a fine balencing act for Fulham this season, their over riding priority is the League but a decent run in the Europa league brings money and prestige which may in turn allow them to bring in better players and push up the table. Sadly i think they will lose this game.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 2-1 win for Liverpool

Portsmouth V Wigan Athletic

The Portsmouth Circus rumbles on, this weeks installment is a Transfer ban for non-payment of debts which basically, unless they get an infusion of cash, ends their chances of survival this season, no new players means they wont pick up enough points in my opinion.

Wigan broke Burnley’s 100% home record last week which was a great result (another one i got wrong) they sit in the top half of the table and have had a full week to prepare for this game.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 1-0 win for Wigan.

Stoke City V Wolverhampton Wanderers

Stoke’s home record should be enough to help them win this game despite losing to Pompey in the week the premier league is by far their main focus.

Wolves picked up 2 good draws in their last 2 premier league games, Away at Everton and home to Villa but they need to start turning a few into wins if they want to survive.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 2-1 win for Stoke City

Sunderland V West Ham United

Since beating liverpool Sunderland have lost 2 games, one only by Penalties but its still 2 losses in a row and they will want to rectify that this week, They’re only 3 points away from third, they wont finish in the top 4 but its commendable to be doing as well as they are but they need to get a win at home V West Ham. West ham grabbed a draw against Arsenal last week and might be gald of that point at the end of the season, they will need to start picking up wins very soon or it will be a big mountain to climb.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 2-0 win for Sunderland

Manchester United V Blackburn Rovers

Last weekend United were poor against Liverpool and deserved to lose and will want to get back to winning ways in the league this weekend and should have Darren Fletcher back to their line up but maybe missing both Vidic and Ferdinand with calf injuries, with Neville suspended and Giggs doubtful as well as park and hagreaves still not fit.

Blackburn are having a tough time Swine flu has hit their club and they have Chelsea and manchester United to contend with.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 3-0 win for Manchester United

Sunday

Birmingham City V Manchester City

Birmingham went against my prediction last week, i really didn’t think they would beat Sunderland and it was a good result, this time its big spending Manchester City who are currently 6th with a game in Hand.

City cruised past Scunthorpe, as they should have done, according to sky City spent more than 400 times what Scunthorpe did last summer. City, if they really have ambitions of top 4 need to really win games like this and i think they will.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 1-0 win for City

Mystic Jarv 24 & 25 October

A good week last week 8 out of 10 correct results and 1 fully correct score. I Play Supoer 6 on sky too and got the time for the first goal right 5 out of 6 correct results which was the same as the guy who won, looks like i was just unlucky at being drawn out of a hat, however if Everton had won the game at the death i’d have been a few grand richer.

Anyway onto this week:

Saturday

Wolverhampton Wanderers V Aston Villa

Things are going well for Villa, beating Chelsea last weekend was a good achievement and leaves them only 6 points off the top and 3 points off third with a game in hand.

Wolves picked up a good point away at Everton last weekend and for their sake its a good thing they did as they have visits from Villa and Arsenal and a tough trip to Stoke in their next 3, all of which they will do well to get anything out. I can’t see them getting anything personally and i reckon they will be in the bottom 3 by the time of the International break, it doesnt get any easier after that though as they have to goto Stamford bridge.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 2-1 win for Villa
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Aston Villa Match Discussion

Birmingham City V Sunderland

With a little help from a Beach ball Sunderland got a great result against Liverpool, regardless of whether it should have been a drop ball, Sunderland were by far the better team and deserved the 3 points and currently lie 7th only 6 points off the top, this is the same club that marginally stayed up last year and has had a remarkable turnaround under Bruce’s leadership.

Birmingham have a new owner and will have 80 million to spend on players over the next 2 windows, For their sake they need some points on the board before the end of December to make sure the £40 million will be enough to help them stay up.

Sunderland have the better team and squad and i think will have too much for Brum

Mystic Jarv predicts a 2-0 win for Sunderland
Birmingham City V Sunderland match discussion

Burnley V Wigan Athletic

Burnley have a great record at home, 100% in fact and they will need to continue that to survive this season or start picking up a few away from home. The question is if they do lose at home will it destroy their form and confidence but i’m betting 12 points from their first 9 games, they’d have taken that at the start of the season. Were a quarter of the way into the season more or less so they need to continue that points to games ratio and they’ll be easily safe.

Wigan are a bit of an enigma beating Chelsea and then losing to Hull and will need to find some form and pick up some points. I believe they will stay up as there are at least 3 worse teams than them but they will do well to win this weekend.

Mystic Jarv predicts 1-0 to Burnley
Burnley V Wigan Athletic match discussion

Hull City V Portsmouth

Two of the bottom 3 meet in Hull and neither will want to lose, Portsmouth have been playing better than their results show but you don’t win anything by playing nice football, just ask Arsenal fans, Portsmouth really have to win this game .

Hull also really need to win this game, I personally will be astounded if Hull are a premier league club next season, i could and have said the same for Portsmouth but they apparently have cash to spend in January to strengthen the squad, whether it’s too late or not will depend whether they can get anything from this and other games.

Mystic Jarv predicts Portsmouth to win 1-0
Hull City V Portsmouth match discussion

Tottenham Hotspur V Stoke City

Jermain Defoe is quite rightly missing this game for a stupid and dangerous stamp so it looks like Crouch and Keane will start up front, if they win this one they will go into the Derby against Arsenal above them in the table which after the last few seasons will be a bit of a relief.

Stoke are doing great this season, in the top half of the table with 12 points having already played Liverpool, Chelsea and Man United, Like Burnley i’m betting they would have taken that before the season started. I don’t think they will have enough to beat Spurs at White hart lane though.

Mystic Jarv predicts 2-1 to Spurs
Tottenham Hotspur V Stoke City match discussion

Chelsea V Blackburn Rovers

Chelsea got a great result against Athletico destroying them 4-0, it certainly looks like the transfer ban hasn’t affected them much if at all, they lost last time out in the Premier League against Villa and lost top spot for the second time this season. This is a good opportunity to regain it before their main rival has a tough game at Liverpool on Sunday.

Blackburn are about where i expect them to finish this season middle of the bottom half, This is a very tough game for them after narrowly beating Burnley at home last week they have both Chelsea and Manchester United away in their next 2 league games

Mystic Jarv predicts 2-0 to Chelsea
Chelsea V Blackburn Rovers match discussion

Sunday

Bolton Wanderers V Everton

Everton were destroyed in Benfica on Thursday night, They have a lot of injuries, 9 players missing on Thursday through injury, i’m not sure if any of them are back but they should have Heitinga and Neill available after being cup tied.

Bolton have had 8 days to prepare for this game and haven’t had to travel to Portugal and back like Everton have. They did well and almost got a draw at Old Trafford and have 2 games against Chelsea in 2 competitions next up so will want to do well in this game.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 1-0 win for Bolton
Bolton Wanderers V Everton match discussion

Liverpool V Manchester United

I can’t wait for this game, As most of you know i’m a Manchester United fan and I am definitely a little biased, make of that what you will. Liverpool have been struggling 4 games without a win in all competitions and have their biggest rivals up next. To make matters worse Liverpool have some injuries although despite what Rafa says it’s not as bad as he makes out, pretty much every other team have had and in fact 2 thirds of the premier league have more injuries right now. I fully expect Torres, Gerrard and Johnson to be playing on Sunday.

United are on a run of 11 games without a loss and have 10 wins out of those games, they have 7 more points than they did this time last year. United have injuries too, more than double that of liverpool in fact but again i expect the game to be contested by pretty much full strength teams, Even Owen Hargreaves is hopefully expected back in full training soon.

The game could go either way and will depend on how the 2 teams start, It’s easy to say Liverpool are missing Alonso but they are and i think (hope) United edge this one.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 2-1 win for Manchester United
Liverpool V Manchester United match discussion

Manchester City V Fulham

City have won every game so far at Eastlands this season and will be glad to be back there after 2 draws away from home, Unlike their opponents this weekend though they have had a week off so should be nicely refreshed although they are still missing Robinho but as they have another 80 million pounds of striking options that shouldn’t be a worry. When you have 3 strikers out and can still call on Santa Cruz (£18m) and Tevez (£25-47m) thats not a bad choice is it.

Fulham played Thursday evening and in Hodgson’s own words the Premier League is more important, They were unlucky against Roma, I’ve not seen the incident but i gather the sending off was harsh.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 3-1 win for Manchester City
Manchester City V Fulham match discussion

West Ham United V Arsenal

If the games go as i’ve predicted them West Ham will be bottom after the weekend, West ham have not won since the opening day in the league and desperately need some points.

Arsenal have a few injuries but are playing really well, Wenger plays great football and this season they are picking up results too. They have the best goal difference of any team in the league and if they win their game in hand are only a point off top of the table. Like Spurs they will want a win this weekend to be on a winning league run going into the Derby next weekend

Personally i can only see this game going 1 way

Mystic Jarv predicts a 2-0 win for Arsenal

Mystic Jarv 17-19 October

Back to the Premier league after the international break and a few teams have injury worries and knocks to consider, several players missed the midweek internationals, however i’m betting most of them are playing this saturday.

Anyway here we go

Aston Villa V Chelsea – Early Kick off

This will be a tight game after the internationals, i Believe, maybe wrongly, Chelsea have had more players on international duty and will have travelled further.

This season will be tough for Villa, last season they only really had Everton to contend with for the Europa League this year there is Manchester City in the mix as well as spurs and that makes them one of 8 or maybe more teams vying for the top 5 European places from the league, but of course there might be more depending on the results of the Cups. This must give them lots of pressure and it will be interesting to see how they do.

Chelsea are top of the league again after United stumbled at home to Sunderland and will want to ensure they will still be there at the end of the weekend but its a tough game away at Villa.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 1-1 draw

Aston Villa V Chelsea match discussion

Arsenal V Birmingham City

Will this game can only go one way surely, Birmingham have trouble scoring and Arsenal have the best goal difference in the division.

Mcleish apparently have 40 million to spend in January and for them to progress they need to spend it well, until they they will have to work and battle hard to keep their head above water, their only chance against arsenal is to frustrate the gunners but in my opinion sooner or later the damn will break and if it happens early Brum could be on the end of a hiding

Mystic Jarv predicts 2-0 to Arsenal

Arsenal V Birmingham City match discussion

Everton V Wolverhampton Wanderers

After their horrendous start Everton are in the top half and are only 2 wins from third with a game in hand however i’m sure their realistic aim is the Europa League although like Villa they might find that a tough ask this season.

Wolves are beginning to be almost where i expect them to end up, thats in the bottom three and they have Villa at home next and Stoke away, both games they will do well to get anything out of.

Mystic Jarv predicts 2-0 to Everton

Everton V Wolverhampton Wanderers match discussion

Manchester United V Bolton Wanderers

Every week Bolton are described as battlers and thats because thats what they are , they don’t play free flowing football and have found their niche which has allowed them to stay in the top division longer than most people probably would have forecast.

United were woeful against Sunderland and in thew eyes of some fans the blame falls solely on the shoulders of Ben Foster. Personally i think its harsh but no more than i expected. I’m not saying he has been faultless but on a few occasions he’s been made the scapegoat where others were far more culpable.

It’s likely that Van der Sar will make his return and i hope for his sake he is faultless or he might find himself being jumped on. Whether Edwins return inspires confidence or not i think Bolton might be on the end of a backlash.

Mystic Jarv predicts 3-0 to United

Manchester United V Bolton match discussion

Portsmouth V Tottenham Hotspur

Much of the discussion in the media has been what sort of reception Harry Redknapp will get, after winning the Cup and giving Pompey some good finishes in the league then he should get a good reaction from the Pompey faithful.

Pompey won last time out and that must have been a huge relief to paul Hart, their players and they fans. They will have to work hard to keep in touch and not be adrift come January where they will apparently have cash to spend. Avram Grant has been brought in as director of football and I can see him taking over should results not improve quickly.

Spurs got a point away at Bolton last time which is a venue they have struggled at in the past and other than against United and Chelsea have started the season well and will i think have too much for Portsmouth here

Mystic Jarv predicts 1-3 to Spurs

Portsmouth V Tottenham Hotspur match discussion

Stoke City V West Ham United

I can only see one winner here, Stoke are very tough to beat at home and West ham’s squad isn’t great and has a shortage of goals, not a good combination.

There have been a few rumblings of discontent at Zola too and they desperately need points to stop them being dragged into a season long relegation fight.

Mystic Jarv predicts 1-0 to Stoke

Stoke City V Sunderland match discussion

Sunderland V Liverpool

Liverpool apparently have worries over both Gerrard and Torres however i’m betting both will play. Liverpools defence hasn’t looked as good as in previous years and Jones and Bent ill put them under lots of pressure at home and if Sunderland play like they did against United they have a good chance of getting something from this game.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 2-1 win for Sunderland

Sunderland V Liverpool match discussion

Blackburn Rovers V Burnley – Sunday

This game should have a great atmosphere and hopefully no trouble between the fans especially as all the trouble the security staff are going to including making one Burnley fan make a 50 mile round trip to a game thats 4 minutes walk from his house, thats madness to me. Burnley have struggled so far away from home this season and i have Blackburn to edge this.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 1-0 home win

Blackburn Rovers V Burnley match discussion

Wigan Athletic V Manchester City

If City fail to qualify for the champions league this season then they will only have themselves to blame, they have spent enough cash and should have a big enough squad and need to win games like this to give them the best possible shot at the top 4.

Wigan need a performance like that against Chelsea and Wigans squad will have done a bit less travelling over the last week and might benefit from slightly fresher legs.

Mystic Jarv predicts a 1-1 Draw

Wigan Athletic V Manchester City match discussion

Fulham V Hull City

Fulham are strong at home in recent times and perhaps should be higher up the table than they are on performance alone but its results which will determine their fate not performances. They need a good strong performance and 3 points in this game.

Like Fulham, Hull need 3 points because despite winning last time out they are still in the bottom 3 and have a substantially worse goal difference.

Jarv’s Brazilian Grand Prix-view

Two races to go and the title race could once again be decided and there is rain forecasted on both saturday and sunday which might really put the cat among the pigeons.

Drivers title

Button will be world champion if he finishes third or better regardless of what everyone else does, if Barrichello doesn’t win, then fourth would be enough for Button.

Barrichello has to score at least 5 more points than his team mate to still be in with a chance and Vettel needs to gain 7 points on Jensen.

Hamilton and Raikkonen both have designs on fourth place in the driver’s championship and to finish as high as they can and with less than 10 points seperating the 3 of them it will be interesting (to me anyway) to see who gets it.

Constructors Championship

Brawn GP are constructors champions, proclaimed the first “Debut” team to manage the feet. Why the quote marks you might ask and the answer is simple, it’s because they are not a debut team in anything other than name, they were Honda last season who did 99% of the development on the car and BAR before that. Mclaren and Ferrari are only separated by 2 points for third and both will want to beat the other for their own pride.

Toro Rosso look like finishing bottom of the table as it’s unlikely that they will gain more than 8 points on Force india without one of the Races being very high attrition.

Felipe Massa

Massa is back in an F1 car, all be it a 2007 privately owned car with GP2 tyres on it due to the banning of testing which is fantastic to see. No one likes to see bad injuries like that.

Other stuff

I’m sorry not to see Timo Glock finishing out the season as he is looking for a drive next season and as mentioned above i don’t like to see drivers injured and good luck to Kamui Kobayashi, a tough ask jumping in an F1 car with 2 races left, no testing to try and get yourself a seat next season.

Stargate Universe Air part 3

In case you didn’t guess they fixed the Air scrubbers, well it was obvious they would wasn’t it, there are 20or so episodes and they would all be a bit dull if everyone had suffocated in Episode 3.

As standalone episodes go it wasn’t that eventful however it did set in motion a few events and set a few precidents, The communicatinf with Earth and the possability of Guest appearances.

You cna delay the ship going to Faster than light or FTL by holding your arm in the gate’s event horizon. The characters were fleshed out a little more.

Most of the Episode was set off world in a large desrt looking for something to fix the Air purifiers, various relation ships were strained and there were disagreements but other than that there was lots of walking around in the desert.

I’m looking forward to seeing how the series progresses, seeing more of the ship as they explore and as the story develops.

Stargate Universe – Air parts 1 and 2

The new Stargate series started this week, titled Universe and as a fan of both SG1 and Atlantis i was eagerly awaiting its launch.

While the series was new, most of the story concept isn’t, obviously there was going to be some continuity from the Stargate Franchise and i am expecting at least a few episodes of the first series to be about finding supplies in the same way Atlantis was. The concept, being stuck far from home has been used many times over the years one of the most recent being Star Trek Voyager and even Atlantis from within the Stargate franchise, i’m a bit of a trekkie too but Voyager was my least favourite series so i’ll be interesting to see how they compare.

There are other examples too of being far from home in the Sci-fi world, Farscape which starred SG1 alumni Ben Browder & Claudia Black and going back further i can cite Buck Rodgers, far from home in terms of time rather than distance and i’m sure there are more examples.

Anyway the series opened with aa moody opening of the Destiny booting up so to speak and then a Stargate which flings out Brian J Smith playing Matthew Scott followed by the rest of the main cast before the Stargate shuts down and a visual effect most Sci Fi fans will understand as jumping to hyper space before the story jumps back in time to Explain how they got there. I don’t want to go into every detail because thats a waste of time I’m sure there are full scene by scene reviews out there.

The first episode included Jack O’Neill, Sam Carter and Daniel Jackson from previous Stargate series to add a bit of continuity and i believe there are a few more guest appearances as the series progresses. The first 2 episodes were mostly setting the scene and beginning to develop the characters.

The majority of the first 2 episodes was given over, as the title suggest’s, to Air or rather their lack of it, we quickly learned there was hull breaches which needed to be closed off and the air scrubbers were not working. The last breach was found within a shuttle which the door could only be closed from the inside which lead to Senator Alan Armstrong sacrificing himself. They also had an introduction to the Stargate realm via a video explaining to David Blue’s character about that the Stargate is, this helps anyone who hasn’t seen previous series to still enjoy this one.

They also explained that the Destiny was several billion light years from earth and that other ships had been sent to seed the galaxies with stargates and to gather information which is relayed back to the Destiny

As the 2nd episode was drawing to a close some of the scientists tried to dial Earth against Rush’s wishes as it might deplete the power although this failed the ship dropped out of Hyper space and began to dial itself which Rush explained he had told the ship what they needed and it had found it for them. The episode went off as a team was going through the gate to find supplies to repair the air scrubbers against the clock before the ship took off again.

Air part 3 will cover this mission and set in motion the rest of the events for the series. All in all i enjoyed the 2 episodes and i’ll be looking forward to episode 3 next Tuesday and more imporantly seeing how the Crew developes and how much more we see of the Destiny. The series will need more than just random stops at planets and random encounters with aliens and hopefully there will be a secondary story arc rather than just trying to get home.

Mystic Jarv 4th & 5th October

So Saturdays games are done and i didn’t do very well, 1 correct result and no correct scores.

Here are my predictions for Sunday and Monday’s Premier League Games, its a bit brief as i don’t have much free time

Arsenal V Blackburn Rovers

I can’t see Blackburn getting anything from this game, maybe something from a Set piece, corner or free kick and i expect them to battle and fight hard, their only hope is to frustrate Arsenal but Arsenal’s midfield should control this game

Mystic Jarv predicts Arsenal 3 – 1 Blackburn Rovers
Arsenal V Blackburn Rovers match discussion

EvertonV Stoke City

After a poor start Everton are back to how i expected them to be performing and have moved up to the top half, They also have Louis Saha who is playing really well and scoring goals, the worry must be is how long before he picks up another Injury. I hope he doesn’t because i wish him well and i think he could have been great for United if not for the Injuries. Everton also have Yakubu and Job up front to choose from which is a pretty good front 3 to choose from.

Stoke were not themselves last week, i expected them to Harry and put pressure on United for 90 minutes but Man United seemed to deal with the physical play very well. Everton have their own physical players who will need to work hard and they should edge this game.

Mystic Jarv predicts Everton 1 – 0 Stoke City

West Ham United V Fulham

Fulham probably deserved something out of the game against Arsenal and didn’t get it and find themselves before they play in the bottom 3, 1 place above West Ham who they play today. Both clubs have 2 games in hand on those around them and will want to make sure they pick up the points to make themselves safe especially as Hull won yesterday. Fulham went top of their Europa league table on thursday and their biggest danger this season is whether it will distract them.

West ham have Matthew Upson back in their team and are desperate for 3 points or risk getting dragged into a prolonged slump

Mystic Jarv predicts West Ham United 1 – 0 Fulham

Chelsea V Liverpool

The big game of the weekend, No Cech for Chelsea and both teams have strikers scoring goals, There has been a lot of talk about Torres or Drogba, which is the better striker this week, well I think it will be interesting finding out over the season if both stay fit. Chelsea lost last week to Wigan and were not fantastic away in Cyprus so Ancelotti has to get them playing again.

Liverpool need to get Gerrard and Torres in the game and supplied, if they do they have a chance of winning the game, if not then they could get a beating.

Mystic Jarv predicts Chelsea 2 – 2 Liverpool

Aston Villa V Manchester City – Monday

City are playing well and have Santa Cruz back fit and if they win their 2 games in hand could go top of the league, Hughes has done a great job of deflecting pressure saying their aim wasn’t to win the title, How will they handle it if they areinvolved in the title fight.

I had Villa to win last week and unfortunately for them they lost but with 2 game sin hand on top of the table are well in the hunt for a top 4 finish but need to aim to get something from the games against the other challengers even at home.

Mystic Jarv 3rd October

here is this Saturdays premier league predictions, Last week i got 7 results right and 1 perfect score, the ones i got wrong were I had Villa to win at Blackburn, Chelsea to win at Wigan and Birmingham to beat Bolton, so lets see how i get on this week:

Bolton Wanderers V Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs wont find Bolton away an easy prospect, certainly tougher than Burnley at home and its looking likely they will be without Jermain Defoe, all that means is they bring in Peter Crouch who got a Hat Trick on his last start to partner Robbie Keane who got 4 goals last weekend. Modric is still missing and whether he would have made the difference against Manchester United and Chelsea we will never know. Spurs lie 4th on the same points as Liverpool above them and Man City below them and i think had someone asked Harry before the season, he’d have taken that at this stage. Bolton picked up a good 3 points away at Birmingham and its a good thing they did because after this game, they goto Old Trafford, host Everton and then Chelsea and then goto Villa, thats 5 games in a row i can’t see them getting anything out of, Bolton will have to battle for any points out of these games and they might be able to frustrate one or maybe 2 of the teams to get a draw or 2

Mystic Jarv predicts Bolton Wanderers 0 – 2 Tottenham Hotspur
Bolton Wanderers v Tottenham Hotspur match discussion

Burnley V Birmingham City

Burnley are strong at home with a 100% record and have lost every game away conceding 14 goals in the 4 away losses without troubling the scorers, the worry for Burnley is if they suffer a loss of form at home they will be doomed, still 9 points from their first 7 games is about as good as they could have hoped for , especially when the games include Man United, Chelsea, Everton, Spurs and a trip to the notoriously tricky Britannia Stadium to play Stoke City. Birmingham are exactly where they need to be at the end of the season, with at least 3 teams below them, i’m sure Alex Mcleish will be very happy should they finish 3 points above the bottom 3 at the end of the season. I had Birmingham to win last week at home against Bolton, not so this week.

Mystic Jarv predicts Burnley 1 – 0 Birmingham City
Burnley V Birmingham City match discussion

Hull City V Wigan Athletic

Hull are in trouble this season, only kept off the bottom by the pointless Portsmouth and Phil Brown must be feeling the pressure. They have 6 games now against teams that are currently near the bottom or expected to be there by the end of the season and its Vital to their season they get something out of these games or risk being too far adrift, This time last season everyone was amazed how well they ere doing at the top end of the table, this season its more like what was expected. Wigan will be massively buoyed by beating Chelsea, their first win against a “Big 4″ club in 35 attempts and find themselves in the top half of the table and will want to capitalise on that by taking 3 more points against Hull before entertaining Man City after the International break

Mystic Jarv predicts Hull City 0 – 1 Wigan Athletic
Hull City V Wigan Athletic match discussion

Wolverhampton Wanderers V Portsmouth

I really think Wolves will be back in the Championship next season however their saviour might be that Hull and Portsmouth are really poor and they will likely only need to be better than 1 more club, they got a beating last time out 5-2 at Sunderland, a result that flattered Sunderland but never the less Wolves defending was shocking. Portsmouth are in big trouble, 7 games, no points, players unpaid and the Premier league threatening to step in to take over the club to save them from administration, I feel sorry for the Pompey fans but i can’t see things getting any better anytime soon, whether their new owner has any actual cash i don’t know but it will become evident very quickly if he hasn’t.

Mystic Jarv predicts Wolverhampton Wanderers 1 – 0 Portsmouth
Wolverhampton Wanderers V Portsmouth match discussion

Manchester United V Sunderland

With Owen missing though injury this is an opportunity for Macheda or Welbeck to be on the bench and possibly get some game time, United went top for the first time this season last week on goal difference and despite not looking their best at time have kept picking up wins, Lots of people said United would struggle without Ronaldo and they have taken a while to learn the system they are playing this season. It can also be said they are less predictable without Ronaldo and goals have come from a number of players, 8 in total i believe. Sunderland got a good win against Wolves, a score line that flattered them a little, one thing is for certain if they get a penalty Darren Bent wont be giving it up after the ear bashing he got from his manager Bruce this week. Sunderland are doing well but i don’t think they aren’t strong enough to goto Old Trafford and win.

Mystic Jarv predicts Manchester United 3 – 0 Sunderland

Formula 1 2010 News & Rumours

I Mentioned before Kimi apparently going back to Mclaren in 2010 which opens the door for the worst kept secret in Formula 1, Alonso to Ferrari.

That leaves Kovalainen without a seat and Renault with a seat open. I really don’t see it happening though, Heikki has had a great car last year and  the same one lewis has this year and has been miles behind, In short Kovalainen is not a team leader and thats what Renault will need.

BMW Sauber have been bought out by the Qadbak group who also own Notts County, they currently are the “14th team” on a 13 team grid. Bernie Ecclestone has been trying to  get the teams to agree a 14 team grid and then there are rumours that  US F1 are struggling to be ready.

US F1 will be an american team built in america built by American drivers, a gerat sentiment but ultimately doomed to failure, they need someone with good F1 knowhow and a test driver who knows the circuit inside out to develop the car, they’ve been linked with Scott Speed who was rubbish for Toro Rosso.

Campos F1 have been linked with Pedro de la Rosa who has years of experience of testing and racing and also with Bruno Senna’s nephew who was linked to Brawn last year, that could be a good line up of an up and coming racer and a guy with the neccesary experience to get the car ready and get the job done.

Rosberg has been linked with Brawn due to Mclaren apparently looking to buy a stake in the Brawn outfit and wanting a German driver there, what that means for Rubens i’m not sure.

Manor have apparently gotten Virgin as a sponsor as Branson thinks he can get better exposure for less money, Better exposure than leading the championship? ok then good luck with that. Regardless of whether Brawn are challengers next season they will likely be in front of Manor, I hope Manor do great as they are based in Sheffield and carry the Yorkshire flag on their logo, lets face it they wont waste money being a Yorkshire Team. They certainly have a history of winning, 171 races and 19 championships, thir previous drivers include the last two Formula 1 world champions – Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen – as well as BMW’s Robert Kubica and Williams’s Kazuki Nakajima so they seem to have an idea of picking good drivers.

“Lotus” are back on the F1 grid although not made by Lotus, still its good to have the name there even if they have little by way of link to their heritage. in fact they might have ended up on court if they tried to use the monikre Team Lotus instead of Lotus F1 team, backed by the Malaysian governemnt and Proton it will be interesting how ready they are having only been granted a grid slot on September 12th. Proton in F1, thats something i never thought i’d have to write/say/imagine. They will be made by Litespeed a company with 25 years racing experience and Mike Gascoyne’s MGI Ltd and if they can get the right drivers it will be interesting if they can challenge for Mid Table.

Japanese Grand Prix-view 2009

With Fuji pulling out of the Grand Prix swap arrangement the door has been left open for Suzuka to be the permanent host of the Japanese Grand Prix, My personal opinion this is a good thing, I prefer Suzuka over Fuji.

a Map of Suzuka Circuit

a Map of Suzuka Circuit

Both Championships could be decided this weekend, for Button he needs to better Barrichello by 5 points and the title is his, the 20 point lead means he can’t be overtaken and his 6 wins can’t be caught by any of his rivals

Brawn currently lead the constructors title by 42.5 points and will be crowned champions as long as they at least equal Red Bulls points haul, in fact as long as Button and Barrichello pick up 12 points between them in the last 3 races they will win the title regardless of what Red Bull do even if Vettel and Webber finish 1 and 2 in all 3 races which is not likely.

Other Notable battles

Ferrari lead Mclaren by 3 points, this annual battle, normally reserved for the constructors title rather than 3rd and 4th but neither team will want to finish below the other, for Ferrari that means getting Fisichella up to speed and quickly but with no testing that probrably wont happen and with Mclarens recent speed.

Hamilton is 3 points behind Raikkonen too and with the reports Kimi is moving to Mclaren or has at least signed a pre-agreement subject to getting out of his contract at Ferrari both will want to not only beat the other will see Webber as a target.

It looks like Toro Rosso will be ending up with the wooden spoon, Force India’s assurgance for a couple of races has given them an 8 point lead and barring a race or 2 of high attrition i can’t see them getting them and thats if Force India don’t pick up any more points.

So we’ve beaten the Aussies, What Next?

Feels good doesn’t it? to have regained the Ashes, Time to celebrate, let their hair down, relax and generally enjoy something that is an all too rare achievement, Beating the Aussies in an Ashes series, for the squad members who have done it twice in 4 years, does it really get much better than this?

Instead of spending Tuesday which would have been the first day after the 5th day recovering, the England 1 day squad will be travelling to Belfast for nets and then only 3 days after the scheduled finish of the test series play Ireland in a one day international, then have 9 more games, 2 Twenty/20 games and seven one dayers all before September 20th. Thats ok right a few more weeks and  then some much needed rest….Wrong.

Both England and Australia both then have to fly to South Africa for the champions trophy and arrive too late to fit in a warm up game, sure they need that because they’ll all be rusty from the resting and partying, The tournament starts on 22nd September and England’s first game is the 25th and then again on the 27th and 29th against, Sri Lanka,  South Africa and New Zealand. If England make the final on 5th October they will have a few weeks back home.

On November 1st England fly back to South africa for the start of the Winter tour for 12 weeks returning home after 4 test matches and 5 One Dayers plus the usual tour matches returning back on 19th Janaury.

There’s the Twenty/20 World cup in April and a short tour of Bangladesh in February, I just hope Englands first choice squad is fit by the time fo the first test in December at Centurion

Jarv’s European Grand Prix-view

Well after 4 weeks off the Formula 1 circus rolls into Valencia, from the Practice times it looks like Brawn GP will be competitive again, whether that’s the Heat helping with grip, they might have fixed the problem or a combination of the two.

Alonso topped the 2nd practice session and the Mclaren’s have looked competitive too. Rumours abound at the moment Alonso will be replacing Kimi at Ferrari next season but the deal has stalled as they aren’t sure if Massa will return.

This Grand prix was not a good one for Ferrari and their auto pit release system a year ago and it doesn’t look like being great this time around either, Ferrari aren’t challenging and have their Test driver Luca Badoer this weekend  and probably for the majority or even the rest of the season.

There’s a new driver too for the second grand prix running, Romain Grosjean replaces Nelson Piquet jr but sadly not the Return of Michael Schumacher, I’d like to say i really don’t like Schumi, there’s no denying he’s a phenominal driver but his methods and that of Ferrari while he was there left a lot to be desired.

Well I’m going to watch Qualifying now.

Ashes 2009 5th Test Day 3

Well the 3rd day is under way, England started 230 runs ahead with 7 wickets still left to put the game beyond Australia.

First ball up there was a massive shout for Trott edging the ball behind, He hadn’t edged it the ball had knicked his back leg, The Aussies seem to be getting some decent swing & movement. This is a big test for England, they have a real chance to put the game and series to bed, I believe anything 300 plus should be a good enough lead on this pitch which means at least another 70 runs today’

I’d like England to get a couple hundred total this innings and have a nice 370 lead but it looks to be a fascinating day and What a day of Sport, Deciding Ashes Test, Football this afternoon and Grand Prix Qualifying

Sven’s back

So Sven is Back, As Director of football for Notts County and i have to say i am very surprised.

I will be watching the press conference on Sky Sports News with interest at lunch time and i never thought i’d be interested in a Notts county press conference, no offence to Notts County intended but how many people outside of their own fans would have really been botheres if Joe bloggs had been announced as Director of football.

In that sense its a good move already, it has increased the profile of the League 2 club and i’m sure caused a number of foreign journalists looking up exactly where Notts county is.

I will also be interested to see how the Director of football experiment works or whether Sven will just end up as manager before long but one thing is for certain i’d bet Sven never thought he would be making a trip here to Rotherham (ok its actually played in Sheffield but near enough)

Top Gear Returned – Series 13 Episode 1

Top Gear returned to our Tv screens this week amid claims the Stig would be revealed and with claims of budget cuts. Andy Wilman (head Producer of Top Gear) had gone on record saying the cuts would be blatantly noticable to the average viewer.

With this in mind i wondered what to expect when i sat down to watch on Sunday evening and i have to say i didn’t notice the cuts, maybe they will be more noticable in the next 6 episodes but they were, not to me anyway, not noticable.

There was a race in Top Gear style with the difference this time Jeremy (Clarkson) wasn’t in the car, he was in the UK’s most modern train, a Tornado steam locomotive , James (May) wheel of a vintage Jaguar XK120 and Richard (Hammond) astride a 1949 Vincent Black Shadow motorbike. I wont spoil the result in case you havn’t watched it, i’m sure its still around on BBC i Player.

One thing i’m sure wont have escaped anyone is the Revelation that the Stig is none other than Michael Schumacher, I for one am pretty sure this isn’t the case. Suer the lap of the track in the FXX was Schumacher at the wheel as it was his own car, i know this because apparently the only Black one made was the one given to Schumacher so no wonder he was so fast in it.

The only thing i thought was missing, apart from an update to the cool wall but i’m sure that will come in the next few episodes, was to see how really fast Schumacher was in the Reasonably priced car, who knows maybe thats saved for later too.

Dream Theater, Black Clouds and Silver Linings Review

This is my review of  Dream Theaters new album Black Cliuds and Silver Linings, These are my opinions and no one elses.

A Nightmare to Remember – I can see this being a good opening live track with a Atmospheric opening, heavy kick in to whip the crowd into a frenzy and more chilled sections. In short this song seems to have everything heavy chunky riffs, lots of “widdling” from Petrucci and Rudess, sections that will be great to sing-a-long to live. Not sure about the Portnoy sung / Growling verse but I can forgive that for the rest of this epic song.

A Rite of Passage – I’ve listened to this more than any of the other tracks and really wasn’t sure when I first heard it however the song grew on me massively and hearing it live in Leeds was quality, this song has a Megadeth feel to it in places for me, which in my opinion isn’t a bad thing as I like Megadeth, I wonder whether touring with Dave Mustaine on Gigantour had an influence when writing this track. Like the track and I’m sure it will become a mainstay live for a long time to come.

Wither – First impression is WOW I love this song, a first class piece of writing and I cannot wait to hear this track played live.

The Shattered Fortress – the final section to Mike Portnoy’s 12 Steps AA Saga, As has been mentioned this song remixes /re-hashes a lot of the earlier parts of the Saga, personally my least favourite track on the album although I still enjoy it and it’ll be interesting to hear it along with the rest of the AA Suite.

The Best of Times – I heard an interview with Mike explaining this song as a tribute to his father who sadly passed away during the recording of this album and what it meant to him to be able to play it to his father Howard, this song has a very Rush type feeling to the song.

The Count of Tuscany – A new epic to add to the catalogue and an Immense song at that has definite nods to earlier DT tracks in it, in my opinion anyway, it think this will need more listens to truly appreciate it fully.

All in all a great album and not since I first listened to Scenes from a Memory have I enjoyed a new album as much as this one. A definite recommendation from me to go and buy it. The one thing i don’t like is the horrible cardboard/Paper CD Sleeves

Dream Theater @ O2 Academy – DT in Leeds Part 2

First off Leeds O2 is not a venue for you if you are under 6 feet tall and are standing, the complete lack of sloped flooring means unless you are right at the front or are very luck you will spend the length of the Gig trying to move to see bits of the stage.

We had aftershow passes to collect from the box office so entered the venue at the front left bit of the stage and managed to get a great view of Frost* (incidentally the star is part of the name and doesn’t mean there is a comment at the bottom, like i first though) from there. I won’t go too much into the details of each gig as Othersd put it more eloquently than i can, One such review is here, at Paul “Funky” Gibbons Blog/Website.

I enjoyed Frost* once their sound had been sorted out and will definately be listening to more of their stuff, i had meant to before hand but had not gotten around to it, Their set list was:

Hyperventilate
Welcome to Nowhere
Pocket Sun
Dear Dead Days
Black Light Macine
The Other Me

I wont go into it too much more as i’m not familier enough with these tracks to know how well they were performed, other than to say again i enjoyed them.

As soon as Frost* finished some tall bloke pushed his way through to stand next to his mate and completely blocked our view, I hate this, it might sounds strange given its pretty normal at a standing gig for people to push through but if he couldn’t get there early enough he shouldn’t ruin somone elses experience.

We decided to see if we could find somewhere better to see from after trying a few places i decided to stay near the back on the right and jen went to have a look elsewhere, I noticed that there was a bit of space near the mixing desk and as i couldn’t see still from where i was gave that a try.

After a few minutes i became aware of Moliver (Very drunk by this point) shouting there’s Jarv as Jen was trying to find me, Moliver then instsed in giving me a hug and then telling me off for “not doing it properly and to stop being so blokey about it”..

The Sound again was a bit off for the beginning of Dream Theater but after that stood by the mixing desk i thought was good. The Set list was

1. In The Presence Of Enemies, Pt. 1
2. Beyond This Life
3. Misunderstood
4. A Rite of Passage
5. Hollow Years (extended)
6. Caught in a Web
7. Forsaken
8. Erotomania
9. Voices
10. Solitary Shell (extended)
11. Constant Motion
12. As I Am
———————-
13. Medley:
I. Metropolis, Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper
II. Learning To Live
III. A Change of Seasons: VII. The Crimson Sunset

The Highlights for me was Misunderstood as i completley wasn’t expecting it and its one of my favourites off of “Six Degrees” and Caught in a Web as this was another one that i didn’t expect. I was thrown with Hollow Years as it was the Demo version and i have to admit i wasn’t too familier with it.

After the gig we met Jordan and asked him if it was indeed an I-phone he was playing at a couple of points, turns out its an ipod touch not an iphone, probrably a good thing in case he accidentally called someone half way through the gig” er… sorry i can’t talk right now i’ve got to do a solo”.

Apart from not being able to see all that well i really enjoyed the gig and especially meeting with all the nice firendly people from Voices UK

Voicees in Carpe Diem – DT in Leeds Pt 1

On Friday (12th June) myself and Jen travelled up to Leeds to see Dream Theater play at the O2 Leeds Academy. We left our house around 12 pm for the approx 45 Minute journey to Leeds and the car park in “The Light”. We had arranged to meet some fellow Voicees (Members of Voices UK, the Official English Speaking Fan club for Dream Theater). We found the car park with out too much trouble being helped along the way by Marge (Jen’s nickname for the Sat Nav). Everyone was due to meet in the Carpe Diem bar  in Leeds throughout the afternoon, this is a very fitting name for abar which Dream Theater fans are meeting in for reasons i’m not going to explain now.

Upon arrival i was pleasantly surprised by the cheapness of the beer and spotted Woodee around the corner in the Voices Uk reserved area.  and before long we were joined by Moliver and then  DT Makcem and crew (sorry can’t remember names) who had brought a Union Flagfor everyone to sign at the 3 UK gigs. which we quickly realised the pen went through the flag onto the table, thankfully as a parent jen never goes far without some wipes which got it off and from there on in we put something behind it.

I must appologise if i miss anything out but as the afternoon wore on and beer was consumed i might have forgotten something.  I’m sure there will be pictures somewhere though.  Kerry, Rich and Greg were next to arrive i think but as i said  i had drunk beer by this point. The afternoon wore on and was spent chatting to various members of the club in no particular order, NoBloodyName (NBN) & Matt, Beko,  Liquid Drum Theater,  Hutchy,  Neil Watson, Ryuzza & Andy, Eagle Eye Al, Daniel Reid and others (sorry if i’ve missed anyone).  we were joined by some friends of ours Rob,  Rich & Father in law (sorry i’m useless with names).

The afore mentioned flag had a few pictures taken with everyone who was there and Carpe Diem supplied us with some free food, which i was quite impressed with considering we hadn’t paid for it, Good work had been done by Andy (DT Makcem) to arrange the room and food.

We set off with some Voices UK promotional Postcards around 6:40pm to head the short walk to the venue and to distribute the post cards to the queue, i must add that the work handing them out was done by Jen,  Beko and Ryuzza.

The Queue wasn’t the best organised affair there was supposed to be a seperate one for people in the Balcony and at no time was this mentioned to us as we were joining the queue until about 10 minutes after the door opened, as we were standing this wasnt a big problem but at the back of the queue it came to a barrier and was starting to double back until some started waiting on the other side of the barrier so we ended up with 2 queue’s which the 2nd then went around the block then started to double back again. It was mentioned that the British were supposed to be good at queuing  but not in this case it seems.

Once the queue had started moving and those in the balcony had been re-directed it moved along fairly quickly until we got to thebox office where we had to wait for our aftershow passes and was let in through the side door.

The rest of the evening will be in Part 2 and i will try and add some photo’s too.

Well Done Lewis

First off Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton and Commiserations to Felipe Massa who must have been told he was world champion one second only to be told otherwise the next, Close one wasn’t it, of course I’m talking about the Brazilian grand prix climax. I read with interest the mass amount of conspiracy theories as to why Glock was so slow on the last lap from he’s driving for Mclaren next season even though Lewis and Heikki both have contracts to Glock is Lewis’s best mate, all of them basically saying he had gifted the world championship to Lewis.

In a way he did but not because of some underhand means, it was by making the mistake, as did his teammate, of staying on dry tyres when it started raining, if you compare the sector times for the last lap his team mate in an identical car and the same tyres was actually slower through the middle sector, did he throw the race too and purposefully lose time? No of course they didn’t.

It does make me laugh though Ferrari fans complaining and whining about dodgy decisions after Ferrari have gained on a few occasions this season from them, Bourdais in Japan as one example, Spa for another. Smacks a bit of Pot calling the kettle black.

In any case Well done Lewis a fully deserved title, and hopefully first of many

Brazillian Grand prix – F1 Season Finale Prix-view

well after nearly 9 months, 18 Circuits in 17 countries, across 5 continents (Europe, North america, Asia, South America & Australasia) we still don’t know who will be crowned this seasons F1 world champion.

Qualifying is over and Massa has pole and Lewis is back in 4th behind Felipe’s team mate Kimi. According to the BBC this is a crucial advantage for Felipe and while its a nice advantage to have being on pole, your main rival 3 places back behind your team mate if it finished that way Lewis would still be champion.

I fully expect Lewis to go on the charge and try and win the race and i just hope that he doesn’t do something silly and give the stewards any opportunity to hand the title to Ferrari.

While Massa’s team mate got himself infront of lewis his team mate Heikki is back in 5th and whether he can get involved in the battle is doubtful.

The Constructors championship is fairly settled with the 2 ferrari drivers only needing 7 or 8 points between them even if the 2 Mclarens finished 1 and 2.

Prediction time
If all the 4 front runners stay  running i expect Massa to drive away at the front which he’s proven he can do from pole position, Kimi to finish 2nd with Lewis 3rd and take the world championship.

If Massa does win the title i just hope its because of the race and not down to a stewards decision, its been a  exciting season and for the 2nd time in 2 years its gone to the last race, I hope Lewis does take the title but if it does go to Felipe at least it will have been a good season, the FIA aside of course.

You can of course disagree with everything i say if you do please come and say so on awaygoalsrule.com

Lewis Hamilton, I am Not

As promised here is an update on last weekends karting, as you can probably tell I didn’t win. I did receive a 3rd place (out of 5) medal though, shame it was for the “B final” or as I prefer to call it the losers final. There are a few reasons why I didn’t do so well, firstly I’m a bit of a coward when it came to going into the corners at speed, secondly in the semi finals I had a kart that didn’t turn right very well which doesn’t help on a right hand hair pin and also meant I had to slow right down at the corner before the bridge. Thirdly I was carrying more weight than everyone else and fourthly and most importantly I just wasn’t very good, although I did manage to reduce my fastest lap time by 4 seconds over the 3 sections, qualifying, semis and B final. The most important thing is it was a great time and I enjoyed myself immensely.

As for the Chinese grand prix, in a day and age where team orders are banned and the FIA jump on everything they still allow the blatant letting through perpetrated by Ferrari. I realise its going to look like I dislike Ferrari but the truth of the matter is before Schumacher, Brawn and Todt started “bending“ the rules and blatantly getting away with it, Ferrari were my favourite team. Sadly after those 3 left the underhand tactics seem to have continued being ably supported by the FIA.

Its little wonder that I’m not the only one who is fed up of watching decision making that is so obviously one sided, I just hope that who ever wins in brazil and Takes home the world championship crown that it is won on the track and if Massa does win it, that it is not by the points margin he undeservedly gained in Belgium.

As always if you Disagree or even agree with me (its been known to happen occasionally) why not put your point across on the  Away Goals Rule Football Forum, theres a few F1 fans there lurking in the Other sports section.

Its not FIA’r – the Chinese Grand Prixview

The Formula one circus rumbles onto China and Shanghai this weekend with Lewis Hamilton leading the championship by 5 points from Felipe Massa after a controversy filled Japanese grand prix. The FIA do them selves no favours with the conspiracy theorists out there. Massa received a deserved penalty for driving into Hamilton, Hamilton received a penalty for forcing Raikonnen off the track at the first corner, while this was probably deserved as he left him no where to go, it’s a bit strange that I’ve never seen anyone else given a penalty for doing this which happens at a lot of grand prix every season, I’ll watch this weekend closely should the same thing happen whether the FIA will impose the same penalty.

What was very strange was the Decision to give Bourdais a penalty for coming out of the pit in front of Massa, defending his line and being drove into by Massa, somehow that was his fault and got him a 25 second penalty and just happened to promote Felipe Massa up the standings by one place. This was never a penalty and if anything should have been the other way around.

Then there’s the Ferrari pit crew releasing Massa into the path of Poor Adrian Sutil, this should have been a time penalty in the first incident and not the paltry fine they received. Adrian Sutil must think the Team of the prancing horse, twice they have released Massa in front of him and Raikonnen took him out (not deliberately of course) from 4th in Monaco.

I find myself wondering had BMW continued to develop the 2008 car instead of throwing development into 2009 whether Robert Kubica would be even closer to the lead of the championship than 12 points behind, I wonder if Kubica is wondering the same

Still it all makes for an interesting championship, I’m myself going Karting this weekend for a friend’s 30th Birthday, hopefully he isn’t reading this beforehand or I’ll have spoiled the surprise, I’ll let you know how it goes but between you and me I don’t expect to be challenging Lewis Hamilton or even Giovanni Amati (I wonder how many remember that name) anytime soon. In the mean time if you’d like to talk about F1 check out the Awaygoalsrule.com Football Forum. There are a few F1 fans who post in the Other Sports Section
